Local Seniors Enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner

While the rest of us make our grocery list for their upcoming feast, residents at the Zane Trace Apartments are getting a head start on Thanksgiving dinner.

The group came together for the classic holiday fare and fellowship. Property Manager Linda Sowers said it provides an opportunity for the group to cook together and enjoy special recipes if they’re not able to spend the day with family.

“Your basic turkey, ham,” said Sowers. “We have every side dish you can think of. The seniors helped with that and we’re just going to enjoy each other.”

Nancy Hiles is a brand new resident. She moved in in mid-September and enjoys socializing with friends in her new home and Monday she whipped up a dish of green bean casserole for the gathering.

“Oh I have a book that came from Florida,” said Hiles. “My daughter lives in Florida and she sent it and it has recipes from all the different people. ”

Local firefighters were invited to join in the supper but duty calls, so they didn’t get a chance to enjoy the meal. Sowers said the department frequently make stops to help with lift assists and other calls made at the apartments.
