Local students help with SportsBash preparations

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Local high school students helped the Varsity Foundation set up for Saturday’s 2nd Annual SportsBash.
Students from Foxfire High School and Zanesville High School offered their assistance in setting up the Veterans Complex at the Muskingum County Fair. Zanesville Senior Logan Miller said him and a few students were excused from school for the community service.
“Our football coach, he makes us go out and do community service because it’s important to give back,” Miller said. “Also we’re friends with [Rob Sharrer] and we want to help him out and he usually takes care of us and helps us out when we need it. So we just wanted to give back.”
The SportsBash will start for V.I.P’s at 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. for everyone else. President Rob Sharrer said tickets are $50 with entry into the main drawing, free food, beverages, discounted adult beverages, and live boxing matches included.
“Last February we did our inaugural SportsBash and it went over really well,” Sharrer said. “We were really pleased to donate over $11,000 to 22 different area youth organizations.”
Sharrer said a few football players from Ohio State University and Michigan State University will be signing autographs from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
“Mr. Aaron Bates has agreed to come in, sign some autographs tomorrow for Michigan State University,” Sharrer said. “Tyquan Lewis Big 10 defensive player of the year is flying in from Orlando, Florida for this event. We have a bunch of Ohio State University Buckeyes Anthony Schlegel, Zach Boren, Doug Worthington, and Donald Washington. So we’re looking forward to having them.”
