Local Summer Camp helps area girls become STARS

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Young girls of Zanesville completed a 3 day course on becoming stars.
Thursday marked the last day for the STARS Camp at the OUZ/Zane State Campus after starting on Tuesday. Coordinator, Ronelle Barnett, explains the girls were there from 9 in the morning till 4 in the afternoon learning everything from responsibility to life skills.
“They are getting to go through 5 different workshops a day focusing on themselves, focusing on their future goals, basic everyday life skills. Like today they are doing a healthy cooking class just some very simple easy recipes they can make on their own. Like I just have a few things at home what could I do. so they are actually getting hands on, they are getting to make it, they are getting to try it, they are getting little cookbooks to take home with them.”
Barnett notes the final course of the camp focuses on overcoming the odds in life.
“Todd Waites is going to be our wrap up presenter this afternoon and he really just talks about obstacles in life. You know where you are coming form and where you are going, not always the same thing or where you wanna be. So we are excited to have him.”
Barnett says while the camp may be over, planning for next year will soon be underway.
