Local Woman Honored for Service

Shirley McCollister was honored Thursday for her work in the Zanesville community.

She received the Genesis Award for Community Service during a ceremony this evening at the Healthplex. She said she’s honored.

“Well it’s been an exciting day, great honor,” said McCollister. “I feel very honored to be the recipient of the award. ”

Mccollister is a Zanesville native who’s been involved in the local community for many years. She’s given back in various ways including serving in the Muskingum County Community Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce.

When asked why helping the community is so important to her, she said simply, we should cherish the community we live in.

“I think it enhances the quality of life if everybody participates in something and everybody has a talent or a gift of some sort that they can give to the community to make it a better place for all of us,” said McCollister.

She stood before family and friends to thank them for the award before enjoying dinner with the audience.
