Lois Dearth

Lois Mae Dearth, 93, of Zanesville, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 7:00 pm at Brookdale Assisted Living. She was born on April 28, 1932, in Senecaville, Ohio, to the late Paul and Elizabeth Watson. A 1950 graduate of Old Washington High School, Mrs. Dearth retired as matron of the Guernsey County Home.

Mrs. Dearth was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and enjoyed helping with church functions. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Kathryn (Kevin) Cunningham of Norwich and Mariann (Thomas) Honkus of Zanesville; four grandchildren: Dr. Kyle (Jessica) Cunningham of Charlotte, NC, Keith (Ryann) Cunningham of Marysville, OH, Paul (Ayano) Honkus of Aomori, Japan and Laura Honkus of Stow, OH; and five great grandchildren: Liam, Cora, Carolyn, Lucy and Ann Cunningham.

She is also survived by three sisters: Ruth Hoops, Barbara (Duane) Meek and Beverly (James) Murphy; as well as many nieces, nephews and special friends: Linda Friel, Julie McAllister and Tracy Miller.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul D. Dearth, who passed away on November 7, 2023. They were married on October 1, 1950, and shared 73 years together. She was also preceded in death by a sister Eleanor Blackstone; a brother Howard (Bernadette) Watson; a brother-in-law James Hoops; a sister-in-law Mary Dee (Harold) McVicker; a brother-in-law Robert (Nina) Dearth; and a sister-in-law Anne (Richard) Swick.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and Genesis Hospice, who provided loving care, support and comfort to Mrs. Dearth.

Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11AM, Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE. The funeral will begin at 11AM in the Snouffer Chapel with Pastor Jeff Belt officiating. Burial will follow in Friends Cemetery, Quaker City, OH.
