Longtime Zanesville Businessman Dies
A well-known Zanesville businessman has died.
90-year-old Herbert Coury passed away at home on Wednesday.
Coury was the longtime owner of the Imperial Bar. He ran it for 48 years and never missed a day.
As a small 7-year-old boy Coury would stand at 5th and Main Street selling newspapers and had a good day when John Dillenger escaped from the Crown Point, Indiana Jail in 1934.Coury sold 144 papers that day and was proud to give his mom all the money he made.
Coury was also in the Navy serving on the U.S.S. New Jersey as a gunners mate.
He also worked at Brockway Glass and O.J Paul Construction.
Coury was also an avid pool player, gardener and terrific cook.
Calling Hours will be held at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home Saturday from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. with Funeral Services and Military Honors to immediately follow.
Gravesite services will be held at a later date at St. Paul Cemetery.
