Longtime Zanesville Physician Passes Away
ZANESVILLE, Ohio-–A Zanesville physician who served the local community for decades has passed away.
Dr. Carl Schowengerdt died Thursday, August 20 at Primose Retirement Community of Zanesville . He was 95-years-old.
According to his obituary, Dr. Schowengerdt came to Zanesville, Ohio in the mid 1980’s to practice thoracic and vascular surgery. He retired from surgery in 2004, and then formed a not-for-profit corporation, Appalachian Primary Care, whose purpose was to provide medical care for uninsured and poorly insured patients.
After the formation of MVHC in 2007, Dr. Schowengerdt and his employees merged with MVHC in 2008, since they were serving the same purposes. He continued to work at MVHC, providing adult medicine and pain management care, until April 2021. He was the initial recipient of the Chuck Hunter award at that institution.
Dr. Schowengerdt contributed 21 original journal articles to medical literature. He formed a publishing company, Y-City Publishing, LLC, in 2003, to self-publish three books on morals, ethics and religions, available on Amazon.
The Remembrance and Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held from 5:00 P.M. until time of service starting at 6:00 P.M. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at BOLIN-DEIRKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE.
