M. Elaine King
M. Elaine (Hammond) King, 90, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Friday (August 7, 2026).
She was born October 24,1935 in Cambridge, daughter of the late Clarence and Martha (Stout) Hammond.
A 1953 graduate of Byesville High School, Elaine worked twenty-four years as an office manager in accounting at Meridian Plastics; five years at Crown Oil; and twenty years as office manager and human resource manager at L.D.M. in Byesville.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found joy in making wedding cakes, molding chocolates, and baking cookies especially at Christmas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of seventy-three years, Carl Cecil King, who passed away July 22, 2026. They were married May 9, 1953. Also deceased are three siblings: Alberta Brown, Ralph Hammond, and James Hammond; and a son, Carl Jeffery King.
Elaine is survived by her son, Bruce (Trina) King of New Concord; her grandchildren: Travis King of Washington DC, Amanda (Luke) King-Buday of Monticello KY, and Aaron (Nichole) King of Cambridge; her five great-grandchildren: Alissa Buday, Addyson Buday, Alivia Buday, Blake King, and Hayden King; and several nieces & nephews, including a beloved nephew whom Elaine held in her heart as a son, Sonny (Dee) King of Sebastian FL and Sonny’s children: Stephanie (John) McCullough and Rusty (Brittany) King, and Sonny’s grandchildren: Kimberlin (Morgan) Corbitt, Kyle McCullough, and Breanna (Justin) Leonard, and Sonny’s great-grandchildren.
The family would like to say a special thank you to her neighbors, friends, and caregivers who have helped with the care of not only Elaine, but also her husband Carl, and all of their support during this journey.
Visitation will be held Tuesday (August 11, 2026) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Evan. Mark Beros officiating.
Burial will be at Guernsey County Memory Gardens, Cambridge.
