Maple Paving Project

For those of you who dread the pot holes on Maple Avenue, good news is on the way.

The City of Zanesville is set to be approved for a grant from Ohio Public Works that will re-pave Maple Avenue starting after July of next year. The project paves the roadway from Adair to Olde Falls Road and will greatly benefit its many travelers.

"We’ll be able to get most of the pot hole problems resolved by taking the old asphalt out clear down to the sub base. We’ll also be able to raise the crown to improve drainage," says Mike Sims, Public Service Director.

The project will cost a total of about $2 million. $399,000 will be provided through the Ohio Public Works grant. ODOT will contribute 80% of the projects’ cost, and the city is responsible for about $63,000 which comes out of the license tax fund. Sims says crews will work at night.

"There could be some minor inconveniences but it will be a lot better in th end, so we’ll just have to deal with that as it comes."

The project will also take care of all handicap ramps as well.

In other city projects, the sewer separation project at 8th and Marietta Street has about two to three weeks to go until it is completed. Due to a gas leak, crews have been held up. However, all construction zones will be re-paved once the gas company’s repairs are finished.
