Marijuana Plants Growing at South Zanesville Facility

On the outskirts of South Zanesville a marijuana grow site surrounded by 8 foot fences, armed security and 109 security cameras has now begun production.

GrowOhio is just one of 13 level one grow sites in the state. Here, these marijuana plants are in the early stages of life. Right now, the facility is growing several types of plants to determine chemical profiles of the plants. The goal is narrow down the kinds of plants being grown.

“That’s going to be taking a time consuming of the pheno hunt to hunt down the phenotypes to really get those strong ones,” explained Dir. of Sales Operations for GrowOhio Josh Febus. “Only the strong will survive in here and once we have those phenotypes, then we’ll be able to directly clone off those plants.”

Once the plants reach 12 inches tall they receive their registration number from the state and go through 60 days of a vegetative state before getting environmental triggers to push them to adulthood. Plants must also be tested by state run labs.

“So it’s going to go from the vegetative state to a transition preparing it to handle the wattage of the lights and really the next steps of adulthood,” explained Febus. “Then those females will all be passed over to the flowering rooms which is another 60 days.”

Currently GrowOhio employs 35 people at its 60,000 square foot facility. The business has a provisional license to process the marijuana it grow to sell to state dispensaries, but must receive final certification to begin that operation, which should happen by years end.
