Martha Wortman

Martha L. Wortman, 88, of Adamsville died Sunday morning July 14, 2024, at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville after battling cancer for more than ten years.
Born February 5, 1936, in Muskingum County, she was the youngest child of the late Hazel P. (Leslie) and Harry M. Smith, Sr. and graduate of Hopewell High School. Martha retired from the J.C. Penney Company and was a member of the Laura Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed watching the Ohio Lottery television program as well as the wildlife out of her back window. Martha adored her family and loved caring for them. She especially liked giving gifts and cooking family meals, even if it meant hauling food to the fairgrounds so they could eat as a family. Martha always put others needs ahead of her own.
Surviving is her son, Gary (Michele) Wortman of Orrville, Ohio; two grandchildren, Tyler Wortman and Kaitlin (Corey) Chupp and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gerald “Bud” Wortman whom she married May 26, 1956, and who died May 9, 2016; daughter Lori A. Wortman; sisters Elizabeth (Lynn) Dennis, Sr. and Lala (Donald) Bryan and a brother, Harry (Carmen) Smith, Jr.
Calling hours will be 3pm to 6pm Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the Adamsville Community Center, Madison Street, Adamsville, Ohio and one hour prior to the funeral.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Adamsville Community Center with Chaplain Randy Gearhart officiating.
Martha will be laid to rest beside her husband, Bud, in Adamsville Baptist Cemetery.
