Mary Jo Hatfield

Hatfield, Mary Jopic1

Mary Jo Hatfield, 77, of Adamsville, died peacefully at her home, Wednesday evening, January 5, 2022.

Born December 1, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Elmer Ray and Mary E. (Quinn) Helriggle and was a 1962 graduate of Adamsville High School.  Mary Jo worked as a nurse’s aide at Adams Lane Care Center for over 20 years and a faithful member of the Adamsville United Methodist Church.  Birthdays were special for Mary Jo and she made sure to acknowledge everyone’s that she could remember.  On your birthday she either woke you up with a 3:00 am phone call, or a cowbell or firecrackers outside your bedroom window.  She will be remembered for her pie baking, black magic marker and piercing ears with an ice cube and a needle for almost every little girl in Adamsville.  In the summers, she would have six at a time lined up on the picnic table, the youngest being her granddaughter at three days old.

Surviving are her three children, Eric (Dana) Hatfield, Becky (Bob) Holdcroft and Scarlett (EJ) Spiker; seven grandchildren, Copen (Jenny) Holdcroft, Paige (Matt) Wagner, Zach (Kayla) Hatfield, Katie Hatfield, Lakin (TJ) Phillips, Winston and Dalton Spiker; six great grandchildren, Dalilah and Dawsen Holdcroft, Oakley and Aspen Wagner, Theadora Hatfield and Murphy Jo Phillips; two sisters, Starley Kinnan and Connie Allen; a brother, John (Roger Paisley) Fortner; lifelong friends, Larry (Sandy) Blackwood; a daughter-in-law, Marcia Brown; two-step grandchildren, Blake and Dylan McElhaney; a special caregiver, Jess “Susie” Henderson and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Junior Hatfield, whom she married, December 1, 1962 and who died April 11, 2020; a son, Marion Gary Hatfield; a sister, Sam Hawk and two brothers-in-law, Bob Allen and Elden Kinnan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Genesis Hospice- Morrison House, 713 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
