Mary L. Sowards (February 17, 1917 – January 17, 2014)

Mary L. Sowards, age 96, of Zanesville, passed away January 17, 2014. She was born February 17, 1917 in Athens County to the late Rex and Maude Ackley. She was a member of The First Church of the Nazarene; enjoyed gardening, worked part-time at Imlay’s Greenhouse and was a volunteer at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital.
Mary is survived by her sons, David (Carole) Sowards of Zanesville, Dan (Jamie) Sowards of Fairhope, Alabama and Daryl (Sue) Sowards of Zanesville; 4 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ewing Sowards; brothers, Eugene and Paul Ackley and sister, Ann Sigler.
Calling hours will be held 5-8 on Sunday January 19, 2014 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday January 20, 2014 in the Snouffer Chapel with Dr. James Miller officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, 5700 Martin Lane Zanesville, Ohio, 43701.
