Mattingly C-E-O Speaks About Layoffs
It’s a tough day for employees of the Mattingly Foods Company in Zanesville. Tuesday workers were told that their second biggest account, Steak ‘n Shake, will no longer be serviced by the company and that will mean a major layoff. That news just after it was announced that Mattingly’s lost its biggest account, Bob Evans Restaurants. Company officials are now speaking out about the issue. Chief Executive Officer Rick Barnes says that layoffs that were planned for six months down the road will now happen shortly after the company’s final deliveries to those restaurants on May 23rd. Barnes say 250 of 315 employees will be layed off. Barnes says in 2009 Mattingly participated in national bids for the opportunity to continue servicing both customers but were unsuccessful. Barnes also wanted to clear up some rumors about the company…he said Mattingly will not be bought-out by another distributor and is not bankrupt. The Company’s Cash and Carry stores will not be affected by today’s news and will remain open. Barnes says the Mattingly family remains dedicated to the business and the community and its employees and their morale. He says efforts are underway to land new contracts for the company, which was founded in 1947.
