May is Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America named May as Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month.
Rambo Memorial Health Center Nurse, Shannon Bell, said a lot of people have heard about Asthma, but most people don’t realize how many people it impacts.
“Here in Muskingum County, there are 4,100 children and 6,500 adults who has Asthma. While Asthma is a chronic disease, which means it can’t be cured, it can be managed. So awareness is the key to a healthy lifestyle for Asthma patients,” said Bell.
Bell said people with Asthma, as well as other respiratory issues, can be triggered by conditions around them such as high humidity. She said people with these medical difficulties could qualify for a free air conditioning unit.
“If the humidity is high and they’re having to gasp, then that could bring on an Asthma attack. The air conditioner allows there to be more free flowing air which is a benefit for an Asthma patient,” said Bell.
To be eligible for a free A/C unit you need to financially qualify as well as have not received one from Rambo Memorial Health since 2015. To find out more information you can contact Rambo Memorial Health at (740) 452-5401.
