ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A new half marathon will take over the streets of Zanesville come this fall.

The Muskingum County Community Foundation announced plans for a Zanesville City Half Marathon. MCCF CEO, Brian Wagner, said the marathon is part of the Foundation’s Wellness and Recreation cornerstone which promotes projects to improve the quality of life in Muskingum County through recreation.

“The cornerstone is this idea that we’re going to find opportunities and projects that come from the community that they tell us ‘hey, we think we need improvements in this areas’ and the Community Foundation Board of Trustees recently have outlined their quality of life indicators and we want to find projects and opportunities to advance those quality of life indicators.”

The marathon will take place in September and will take participants on a journey throughout Zanesville. Participants will take off in downtown Zanesville, go through historic neighborhoods, and cross the Y-Bridge to finish the race. The Chair of the Wellness and Recreation Committee, Hanna Luburgh-Agin,  said they are now looking for sponsors to help the marathon go off without a hitch.

“We’re of course in need of registration for the runners and that will hopefully be available on March 1st. We’ll be looking for volunteers, sponsorship opportunities,” said Luburgh-Agin. “Water stations sponsors, t-shirts, we need vendors, local wellness…vendors to promote wellness and recreation.”

For more information on how to become a sponsor or volunteer, you can email Luburgh-Agin at luburgh.hanna@gmail.com or contact Wagner at the Foundation.
