Muskingum University officially has a new president.
Dr. Susan Schneider Hasseler has been chosen as the university’s 21st president after almost a year long search since President Anne Steele announced her retirement.
"Throughout my career I have usually been the first woman in leadership position. That has taught me that I need to persistent. But I also need to work very hard to make sure that I create a space in which, it is not difficult for people who are not currently represented in leadership become part of leadership. So it had made me very aware of the things I need to do to make sure the women, the people of color, the folks that are not represented in leadership right in this institution gain a voice. Have a voice and are heard," said Dr.Susan Schneider Hasseler.
Dr. Hasseler already has an idea on the this she wants to accomplish within her 1st year.
"One of our challenges right now is help people understand and grasp that education is important for society. And really contributes to the betterment of society. And I think another challenge is how to make education accessible and affordable for all students," said Hasseler.
Senator John Glenn, Jack Hanna, and many students welcome Dr. Hasseler. July 1st will be Dr. Hasseler’s first official day. She succeeds Dr. Anne Steele’s 16 year term.
