Meet Jasper: This Week’s Pet of the Week
ZANESVILLE, OH- A 5-year-old Coonhound named Jasper is looking for a new home, and the Animal Shelter Society says he’s ready to meet the right family.
Jasper came to the shelter earlier this year after his previous owner was forced to surrender him due to a move. The shelter says he’s friendly, social, and good with other dogs, but not a great fit for apartments or very young children.
“We don’t want you just to walk into the shelter to adopt, we want you to do your own homework before you do show up, look at what is requested and what they need for their behavior, he is loud, he barks, you cannot have him in an apartment setting, the noise is going to be a problem with your neighbors I guarantee it, but he’s really just a super loving dog,” said April Gibson, Executive Director of the Animal Shelter Society.
The 87-pound coonhound thrives in outdoor spaces and has no issues bathing or socializing. He even made a successful visit to an assisted living facility recently.
As part of its fundraising efforts, the Animal Shelter Society is hosting its Second Annual Pickleball Tournament on May 31 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Riverside Park.
“There’s still a couple spots left for teams, and we still have room for sponsors, so you can either stop by the shelter, we’re located here behind Zane State College, or you can reach out to us, or go to our website animalsheltersociety.org, it’s a $50 sponsorship, and it’s sponsorships like that for our 100 percent non-profit that helps us take care of Jasper,” said Gibson.
