Melvin E. Dilley

Melvin E. Dilley died peacefully at Morrison House surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 in Zanesville, Ohio at the age of 89. Melvin was born on September 26, 1927 in Duncan Falls, Ohio. He graduated from Philo High School in 1945. He married Alma Montgomery June 10, 1950. Melvin worked as a truck driver for most of his career but his greatest joy was driving a school bus for the Starlight Program children. Melvin’s children remember him as a kind, creative and loving, great father.
Melvin was accomplished at woodworking and often made his children and grandchildren keepsakes. He was a generous, witty and dedicated individual who loved his family and enjoyed camping with the Seneca Sam’s camping club and spending time with family and friends. He had a passion for tractors and western square dancing. He was an active and dedicated member of the Central Trinity United Methodist Church.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alma Dilley; children, Sherie (Jim) Garrett, Teresa (John) Dunlap, Douglas (Patricia) Dilley and daughter in law Brenda (Tim) Maxhimer; sibling, Pauline (Clem) Pyles and grandchildren, Brian (Katie) Garrett, Jodi (Dirk) George, Heather Dunlap, Christina (Eric) McLean , J.D. (Julie) Dunlap, David (Ashley) Dilley, Tanner Dunlap, Amanda (Zachery) Goldsmith, Bradley (Amanda) Dilley and Brandon (Melissa) Dilley and twenty-one great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father (Paul and Fleeta McConaha Dilley) and deceased sons David Dilley and infant Darrell Lee.
A viewing is scheduled for 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, May 25, 2017 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE. The funeral will be held at 11AM, Friday May 26, 2017 in the Snouffer Chapel with Pastor’s Steve Judson and Tom England officiating. Burial to follow at Zanesville Memorial Park, A reception will be held at Central Trinity United Methodist Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Melvin’s life.
