Michael DeMent

Michael A. “Stinky” DeMent, 68, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, at Morrison House, where he was cared for by an amazing and compassionate staff. He was born on January 29, 1958 in Zanesville. Mike earned his lifelong nickname “Stinky” in his younger years after he decided to poke at a skunk—only to get sprayed. His brother Dave later joked that he deserved it, a story that stayed with him and became part of his legend.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Cyril “Doc” DeMent and Judy DeMent; his grandmother Elizabeth Rittberger as well as his beloved dog, Champ.
Mike is survived by his brother, David (Tina) DeMent; his sister, Leea (David) Cable; several nieces and nephews; many friends; and a special neighbor and dear friend, Victoria. He also leaves behind his special aunt, Susan, who loved and cared deeply about him.
Mike spent most of his life in Fultonham, where he was well known for his daredevil spirit and adventurous personality. He had a passion for tinkering with cars—often taking them apart, even if they didn’t always go back together the same way. Throughout his life, he worked in construction and held many different jobs, always staying busy and hands-on.
Mike will be remembered for his free spirit, his curiosity, and the many friendships he formed over the years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
There will be no calling hours or services. Arrangements have been entrusted to William Thompson & Son Funeral Home
