Mid-East CTC students learn about the culinary arts
Ebenezer’s at the Mid-East Career and Technology Centers has a new name.
The student run restaurant recently went through construction and is now operating as The 400 at Mid-East CTC. The restaurant is run by 21 juniors and seniors who attend Mid-East this year. They are assisted by two faculty members. One of those is senior instructor, Linda Vaughn and she explained the reason for the name change.
"We wanted to update everything a little bit, so The 400 is because we’re on 400 Richards Road, and we thought it’d be a catchy title," said Vaughn. "It’s The 400 at Mid-East CTC, but we figured staff would call it The 400."
Vaughn said the restaurant helps teach students the skills necessary to find an entry level job in the culinary industry. Among other things, Vaughn said the student chefs learn the importance of getting to work on time and working as a team to prepare a meal.
"We just make sure our students are employable and ready to go out on the job," said Vaughn. "We have the luxury of working on those skills hands on. So that’s the fun part."
The 400 is open between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. It is open to staff, the public and it can host special events as well.
