Mobile Dentist Delivers Pearly Whites to Nashport Students

Nashport Elementary students got the chance to get their pearly whites cleaned Monday, but it wasn’t at a dentist’s office, the dentist was on wheels!

Mobile Dentists provides high quality dental services in schools. Dr. Michele Renick performed x-rays, gave students exams, sealants, floss, and fluoride as part of the program. Renick says she can’t reiterate to both students and parents how important it is to develop good oral hygiene at such a young age.

"Once you introduce them to a dentist and into oral health, it’s something that they keep with them. And it’s better to catch them at this age than to catch them at 14 and they’ve never seen a dentist or they’ve never picked up a toothbrush in their life," said Renick.

Renick says some kids do get nervous but it helps that the participating students get it done together.

"That’s a benefit to this program. It takes a lot of the nerves away so if they see their friend go through it, they may still be a little bit nervous, but they still do it because their buddy just did it, or their brother did it, or their sister did it," said Renick.
