ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zane Trace National Trail Model Railroad Club is chugging along with their annual open house this weekend.

The Railroad Club has been in existence for more than 40 years, and the purpose of the open house is to show off to the public the train display and the progress that’s been made since the last open house. A new side has been completed in the display and they put a signaling system in as well.

“We just want everybody to come out and take a look at it. And most people come up, enjoy it. There’s a lot of returned people because they want to see what we’ve done,” said Club Treasurer, Rick Gooden.

Gooden said the goal of the club is to interest younger people to carry on the hobby. Children can acquire a lot of skills when becoming involved.

“You learn how to build. You learn how to sauter. You learn how to create, and the creation part of it’s the best,” he said.

The open house runs all weekend from 11:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The club is located above Christ’s Table on 6th Street, and is open every Tuesday from 7 until 9 p.m. for any member inquiries.
