Mom Indicted On Abduction Charge

An area woman was indicted by a Muskingum County Grand Jury today on abduction charges. Prosecutor Mike Haddox says that Murita Newman was indicted on one count of felony abduction and one count of felony interfering with custody. Newman is accused of taking her seven-year-old son from his grandparent’s home at 1105 McIntire Avenue on October 4th. Zanesville Police say Newman fled to Wheeling, West Virginia where she was encountered by Police in a convenience store and claimed she was lost. Newman was later brought back to Muskingum County and remains in the Zanesville City Jail. If she is convicted of both charges she could face six years in prison.
