Money Paid as Part of Rock Salt Settlement
Ohio’s Attorney General announces that his office is sending checks to 850 Ohio Public Entities as part of the Attorney General’s $11.5m settlement to resolve a lawsuit against Cargill Incorporated and Morton Salt Incorporated over past rock salt prices.
In a press release from Mike DeWine’s office said over $21,000 will be paid out to the Muskingum County Engineer, while the City of Zanesville will receive over $14,000.
As a county, funds will also be paid out to several townships, The villages Dresden, South Zanesville and New Concord.
Muskingum County entities received over $54,000.
The settlement comes as part of a 2012 lawsuit that alleged Morton Salt and Cargill had agreed not to compete with each other to inflate prices, leading to above market prices for rock salt to de-ice roads and bridges.
Both companies denied wrong doings.
