Monica Crawford Named ZAAP Gallery Artist of the Month

ZANESVILLE, OH -Monica Crawford has been named the Artist of the Month at the ZAAP Gallery.

Crawford is a self-taught painter who finds inspiration in all of the patterns, colors, and shapes that are out in nature.

She says her art style is constantly evolving but it stays a steady mix of realism and abstract with hints of fantasy thrown in between.

“I started painting in about 2021 and I had been interested in art for a long time.” Crawford said. “I had taken some ceramics classes, way back in college, but I started to make some art journals and that led me into paint. So I was painting on paper in art journals and then after a year or two, I was like, I can just translate this on to canvas and board, and that’s what happened.”

Along with Crawford’s works, the ZAAP Gallery will also have works from many of their different artists on display during the First Friday Artwalk.

Crawford says it’s a great opportunity for all of their members to be able to showcase their works to the community.

She also shared what it means to her to be named Artist of the Month.

“I am very excited about it.” Crawford said. “I’ve been pretty prolific, most of this work has been done in the last 6 months and so I’m excited to be able to share it with people.”

The ZAAP Gallery will be open from 5 to 8PM on Friday for the Artwalk and is located at 625 Main St. in Downtown Zanesville.
