More problems for the Washington Township Fire Department.

You may recall that we told you the fire department was under investigation for an embezzlement issue. Friday we learned that a fire fighter admitted to the theft, which Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz reported as a large sum of money.

Sunday WHIZ News learned the department is dealing with an insurance issue. Washington Township Fire Department Chief Gene Hanning referred all questions to their attorney, who could not be reached for comment at this time, after WHIZ News obtained an internal message indicating that the department is not currently insured. Sheriff Lutz says that neighboring fire departments will cover all fire runs in Washington Township and there will not be any first responders responding with Community Ambulance until further notice.

According to the information WHIZ has obtained the Washington Township Fire Department is working with its insurance carrier and expecting to have the insurance issue resolved by Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.
