Morgan County Learning Center To Host Small Business Workshop

MCCONNELSVILLE, Ohio – Recently, a resurgence of local businesses has lead some people to try to buy local as opposed to from national chains. This resurgence has lead one community to hold a workshop to help educate entrepreneurs on how to stat a small business.

The Morgan County Learning Center in McConnelsville will host a workshop next month on how to startup a small business. Rick Shriver, who is a board member on the Learning Center, said that small businesses that fail often do so within the first two years, and he hopes a workshop like this can help prevent that.

“We’re really hoping that by having them better prepared before they open their doors that they’ll be successful and they’ll be around a little bit longer,” said Shriver. “Many people will approach this like ‘Wow, wouldn’t it be great if I were my own boss? I’m going to start a business and then I don’t have to go to work everyday.’ And it’s just so much more complicated than that.”

The workshop will be held on June 30 from 9 a.m. till 3:30 p.m. at the Learning Center in McConnelsville and registration is $25 per person. Experts in the field will be on hand to answer questions about the financial, legal, and logistical parts of starting a small business. Shriver said he hopes that this event will attract both those looking to start a business and those that already have one.

“I think it’s really important to really get those people who might have been in business for a year or two and are now really starting to face some of the questions and issues that maybe they didn’t think about when they first came in the small business,” said Shriver.
