Mother’s Day chicken barbecue

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Mom’s got the chance to eat a cooked meal from local firefighters.
The Washington Township Fire Department held its 50th Annual Mother’s Day Chicken barbecue. Fire Chief, Gene Hanning said the high attendance and the great meals made this year’s barbecue a success.
“They didn’t have to stand on the hot blacktop. They were in and out quicker. I would just say that they could get their lunch, get home, and enjoy it much faster. I just think it was a win-win for everybody,” said Hanning.
The fire department added a drive-thru for this first time this year. Chief Hanning said anyone with a carry out order was able to easily grab their food and go without having to leave their car. He said all of the money raised from this barbecue will better help the fire department serve the community.
“The money we get, we turn that into tools and equipment to have better tools and equipment. New techniques to go out and fire and EMS service,” said Hanning.
Each meal consisted of a half chicken and sides. Hanning said over 1,200 meals were served and over half of the orders were done through the drive-thru.
