Movement on Main Preps for Spring Ballet Debut Under New Instructor’s Direction

ZANESVILLE, OH – A local dance studio is getting ready for their Spring Ballet.
Movement on Main, a dance studio in downtown Zanesville, recently got a new instructor.
Peter Merz started learning classical ballet when he was 8-years-old. He has now been teaching for 30 years and he teaches ballet, conditioning, and pointe work.
“I started choreographing when I was 12 and my choreography has been recognized by many organizations.” Merz said. “I’ve had my ballets performed in Korea, Germany, and all over the United States.”
Merz said what makes his classes different from others is that he uses humor in his teachings.
He said the traditional image of a ballet class is strict; while he agrees there should be some strictness he also likes to encourage his students to do well.
Movement on Main is getting ready to host auditions for a Spring Ballet.
Merz provided some details on the upcoming production.
“For the first time, Movement on Main is going to be producing a Spring Ballet.” Merz said. “This year we’re going to be doing a version of the ballet called “La fille mal gardée”, which is a comedic ballet from the mid-nineteenth century. It’s like a classic rom-com ballet but it’s very light hearted and fun.”
Auditions for the spring ballet will be held at Movement on Main this Saturday from 10AM to 3PM.
Anyone who has some dance background and wants to be a part of the show is welcome to audition.
