Movie theatre bomb threat update

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Zanesville Police department continues to investigate a bomb threat at a local movie theatre.
A bomb threat at the Cinemark Movie Theatre in the Colony Square Mall was called in last Friday Evening. Chief Tony Coury said both on and off duty officers responded to evacuate and search the movie theater.
“We made contact with Muskingum County Sheriff office and a bomb-sniffing dog was brought to our scene,” said Chief Coury. “They were able to go through the theatre and assure that there was nothing of concern.”
Chief Coury said the movie theatre reopened around 7:30 after the search determined there was no bomb. He said they are still investigating who called in the bomb threat and do not have a suspect at this time.
“We strongly encourage that if anyone would know who may have done this prank, we believe it to be a young person,” said Chief Coury. “But we also want to let people know that though they think it’s a prank and it’s funny we take it serious, and there’s people at that location that become excited, concerned and afraid. Anything can happen, they can have health reasons or health issues because of something like this.”
Chief Coury said it’s a felony charge to call in a fake bomb threat. We will continue to keep you updated as we get more information.
