Moxahala Fire Update

The fire took a two-story home on 524 Moxahala ave. after 5 p.m. on Saturday.

“They had a rough time putting out the fire, because of the balloon construction of the house and the fire getting into the attic,” said Hobson.

Hobson said the house was vacant and the homeowner was away in Virginia for quite some time, making the fire very suspicious.

“When you have a house fire like this a 5 in the afternoon its very suspicious. We are starting to get a little worried about these fires. That fire was so intense that we had to go defensive. No firefighters were put inside the structure since the roof was caving in. It makes it awfully dangerous for firefighters entering a structure like that,” said Hobson.

Hobson said the next step is to tear down the remaining parts of the house and to continue to gather information for the investigation.
