Muskingum Behavioral Health to hold Summer Prevention Programs

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – One local organization is hoping to aid kids in making better and more informed decisions.
This summer, Muskingum Behavioral Health will be holding a number of summer prevention programs aimed at helping kids make better decisions when it comes to drugs, alcohol and other potentially harmful situations. These programs will include activities covering topics such as good decision making, peer pressure, and building a strong support system.
“We want to work with young people by helping them build skills and abilities to reduce the chances of them getting involved in negative behaviors such as drugs & alcohol, sex, fighting and other things,” said Steve Carrel, CEO of Muskingum Behavioral Health. “By helping kids build those skills, we can actively play a larger role in improving their lives.”
While most preventative based programs are centered around school, this program hopes to reach kids during a time in which they are more likely to
engage in harmful activities.
“During the summer, young people have an awful lot of free time,” said Carrel. “With most parents working during the day, often times kids are left on their own and by having these types of programs, it allows us to reach them and keep those learning opportunities going throughout the summer months.”
