Muskingum County Arts Council

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The newly formed Muskingum County Arts Council has appointed Joshua Prentice as their first executive director.
The recently formed countywide Arts Council was created to provide local artists and art organizations better access to available resources.
“We see ourselves as an umbrella organization to all the other arts organizations in town as well as working artists,” Prentice said. “We see ourselves as a support to them. A port authority so to speak for the Arts.”
Prentice comes from Berea, Kentucky and values rural and Appalachian culture. He sees the arts as a tool that invokes literacy and has the potential to multiply a community’s appeal.
“What I would like to see eventually over time, is that we have our… the space where kids can run in and out of, arts classes, things like that,” Prentice said. “Maybe have some performances in our own space. And eventually over time, I see us having our own space where we can have arts in our space as well.”
Prentice noted that the Arts Council is in its beginning stages and that many directives are still being established before programs and events get scheduled. For more information about the Muskingum County Arts Council, you can visit artsmuskingum.com.
