Muskingum County, City of Zanesville to Collaborate on CHIP Grant Application

Muskingum County and the City of Zanesville will once again apply for a ‘CHIP’ Grant to make improvements to area homes.
The Community Housing Improvement Grant of $850,000 would allow homes in the city and county to see repairs. President of Ohio Regional Development Corporation Dale Hartle said the county and city have partnered to apply for the grant for years in order to better the lives of those residing in the local area.
“The program is designed to make the house more decent, safe, and sanitary,” said Hartle. “It’s not a program designed to simply paint walls or put carpet or flooring down.”
The grant allocated in 2014 has provided opportunities to complete almost 30 home repairs for those who meet income guidelines.
“This is for people who own their own home or buying their own home,” said Hartle. “We can do home repairs which is a smaller amount of money or we can do larger home rehabilitation programs that has a major impact on the house.”
The city and county will need to apply by early May and those interested in applying for home repairs through the program can contact Muskingum County Housing Director, Sheila Samson.
