Muskingum County Commissioners Have Open Bidding For Old Wheeling Water Tank Restoration
ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â The Old Wheeling water storage tank is in need of restoration. On Thursday Muskingum County Commissioners took bids on the project.
The water storage tank on Old Wheeling Road was built in the late 80’s and is in need of a new paint job. There was a total of nine bids submitted to commissioners.
“The paint system on there due to the passage of time has rusted, and now it needs to be completely replaced,” said Project Manager Jeff Vaughn. “You see on the outside rusting and blemishes and so on. On the inside it’s a similar condition. What the paint contractors were bidding on today was work to go in there and refurbish that tank inside and outside with a brand new paint system. They will also put a logo on the outside and a finish, it seals that logo. So it can be nice and can be seen from the interstate and surrounding area.”
Vaughn shares what type of things the county looks for when selecting from several different bids.
“When we look at the paint contractor’s bids, we have to review their qualifications on previous jobs,” said Vaughn. “We are responsible to call references, to make sure that the lowest prices is a good price in terms of the contractor’s ability to repaint that tank properly. We will evaluate that closely. Just because it’s the lowest price doesn’t mean they will get the work.”
Vaughn says he’s hoping to have the tank refurbished by late September.
