Muskingum County Community Foundation Boosts Student Dreams with Major Scholarship
ZANESVILLE, OH – Ten local students are getting a big boost toward their college dreams, thanks to a generous scholarship.
The Muskingum County Community Foundation has awarded the John & Susan (Rose) Dorr Scholarship to ten outstanding students from across Muskingum County. Each recipient received $10,000 toward their education. To qualify, students must be accepted into an Ohio college, university, or skilled trade school. They’re also required to pursue a major in business, nursing, education, or HVAC training.
“I’m going to be honest; I did not think I was going to get it. I knew a lot of people were applying, so it’s honestly a really big honor.” Scholarship Recipient, Grace Moore said.
“Hearing that amount of money, and then hearing your name announced is a really cool feeling. It really takes a lot of the pressure off your shoulders when it comes to paying for college.” Scholarship Recipient, Bailey Silver said.
This year’s winners include both high school seniors and current college students. With an average GPA of 3.92, these recipients have proven themselves in and out of the classroom.
“It’s awesome. I was very shocked to have seen that I won something of this amount. I’m in college. So, paying off my debts to college and to be able to step a great foot into the work force and world without being strapped down by monetary struggles is amazing. It’s truly awesome to not feel that burden.” Scholarship Recipient, Haylie Stemm said.
The full list of this year’s recipients includes Kristy Zhang, Olivia Drabik, Seth Knott, Carly Bice, Grace Moore, Elijah Mayle, Bailey Silver, Trace Wilson, Cali Patterson, and Haylie Stemm.
