ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center may soon have a new home.

The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Department recently donated their old evidence and impound building to the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center. The bigger facility will give the warden’s the space needed to properly care for the dogs and their needs. Dog Warden, Bryan Catlin, says they are now moving forward with plans to renovate the space.

“We’re going to be hopefully meeting with some architects and try to get some blueprints together. Try to get some ideas for some plans to move a lot faster forward with our new pound, sorry, adoption center. Which is what we’re referring to it now. And hopefully we can get into a new building within maybe six months to a year.”

The Warden’s say some obstacles they face are the smell and size of the current facility. They hope that the new space will be more inviting and friendly for potential owners to play with the dogs. They also hope the space will be cleaner and better for the animals.

“If the design is properly built I think the dogs will be happier. I think they’ll be stressed out less. I think it’ll be quieter. So based on that I think people will stay there longer and people will probably come in a lot longer or more.”

The Warden’s hope the new space will help them be able to place more dogs in good homes. Right now the facility holds about 40 dogs at a time.
