Muskingum County Educational Service Center Choir Concert
The Muskingum County Educational Service Center joined in the kicking off of the holiday season.
Secrest Auditorium hosted the 26th annual holiday choir concert Saturday evening. Six area high schools graced the full audience with their holiday music. Emma Stevens, the Director of Choral Music at ZHS feels these events help the community get into the Christmas spirit.
"This is a wonderful event. I participated in this when I was younger and it’s just a great way for the community to come and and hear traditional music to get everybody in the holiday spirit. It really takes your mind off of the hustle and bustle of the season and gets you excited."
The choirs perfored some seasonal favorites and some non-traditional ones as well. Tri-Valley High School Choir Director, Ann Briggs, took part in the event for the very last time in her career.
"Most of the times with our athletics, we tend to be oh no, you know, we’re against Philo, we’re against Maysville. We’re against Zanesville. This is not a competition, it’s a community event so, you get the Zanesville people sing Tri-Valleys choir. You get the Tri-Valley people listening to West Muskingums Choir. People get more of a sense of comorodary. The kids themselves, the students, love listening to the other students perform. So it is a community event."
Over 10,000 have had the opportunity to perform in the holiday show since it began in 1988.
