ZANESVILLE, Ohio – This week’s dog of the week is a gentle giant with a loving heart in need of a caring home.

Meet Jasper! The 10-year-old beagle mix has found his way to the Muskingum County Sheriff’s K-9 Adoption Center after the death of his owner. His current weight means that he would need a home without stairs and with health-conscious owners.

“It’s going to take a special family to work with him with a few things that he needs to be worked with the health of his body and so fourth,” said Doug McQuaid, K-9 Adoption Center Volunteer. “He can only exercise at a slow, slow pace, very short distances. You would have to put him on a very strict diet so Jasper would need someone that’s really going to take a lot of time and a lot of patience with him. He just needs a lot of tender love and care.”

The K-9 Adoption Center is currently running a donation drive through donation boxes at the Muskingum County YMCA. Requested items include soft treats, greenies pill pockets, medium and large collars and more. The YMCA is also partnering with the adoption center to host the Paws and Poses yoga-based class.

“Come join in the fun as we stretch, smile, support the pups. All proceeds will go to the K-9 Adoption Center to support any cause that they may have. It’s $15 to sign up, both members or non-members. There’s a chance to win gift cards and registration is open now” McQuaid said.
