ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Get your fitness tracking device ready because this weeks Dog of the Week is going to help you get those steps in.

Meet Louie! He’s a 7-year old border collie and terrier mix who knows commands like sit, shake, and high five. He’s friendly with dogs of all sizes, keeps a clean kennel and is motivated to get his daily steps in with a love for long walks.

“So, someone that’s active that would need to go for a walk on a daily basis, this would be a great companion for you,” said K-9 Adoption Center volunteer Doug McQuaid. “We found out that he’ll do numerous laps around here so he’s kind of one of those dogs that never wears out. So, if that’s something you like to do and you like to get a lot of miles in, in a days time, this guy here would just be great. ”

McQuaid shares Thanksgiving tips to help pets like Louie take part in the feast in a safe way that avoids a trip to the vet.

“Remember that Thanksgiving will be tomorrow and with that our dogs and cats love to partake in some of the festivities as well,” McQuaid said. “But, what we need to be very mindful of is when they like naturally turkey and maybe even sometimes chicken but our big thing of it is, with that, you do take the meat off the bone to make sure that you take an extra second to actually feel around in meat to make sure that there’s noting sharp.”
