Muskingum County Library System Updates

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Library System met with the Muskingum County Commissioners to discuss program possibilities.
Director of Libraries Jennifer Spillman and Assistant Director Blair Tom spent this time to explain what the Muskingum County Library System did in 2016 and what they’re hoping to get done in 2017. Spillman said they’re wanting to update and remodel the John McIntire Library.

“Well first I want to meet with the community and really learn the needs they have and where the library can help meet those needs,” Spillman said. “Plus moving that forward and helping them dream about what libraries can really be for this community.”
Spillman said she’d like to update the library and have maker spaces, 3-D printing, and how they can partner with other local organizations to bring those changes. Overall Spillman wants the Library System to be a strong component in early literacy.
“The summer reading program that we’ve had in the past have been pretty similar for the past few years,” Spillman said. “I’d like to see that enhance, enlightened, and enriched in the community. So that we can provide new and engaging ways for children to learn.”
One change that’s coming soon is the expansion in hours of operation. Starting May 1, 2017 Monday through Friday all the libraries will be open from 9:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The John McIntire Library will start opening on Sundays while school is in session from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
