Muskingum County Sees Increase in Property Values Following Reassessment

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Auditor’s Office has recently completed its property revaluation process, and property owners are starting to receive their updated assessments.

This year’s revaluation reported an overall increase in property values. The revaluation process occurs once every six years, ensuring properties are reassessed to reflect current market conditions. The county has seen healthy sales activity in the real estate market, leading to strong property values. As a result, the average property value has risen by approximately 36% for county parcels.

“The reason it’s important is because we set the market value for every home at the current rate of what it could sell for and that would be a willing seller and a willing buyer with nothing else involved and they would know everything about the property,” Muskingum County Auditor, Debra Nye said.

The Muskingum County Auditors website provides a list of dates and locations for informal reviews, where property owners can discuss their revaluations with officials. The letters sent out outline the new property values and offer details on how homeowners can appeal if they believe their property was improperly appraised.

“This just gives the homeowner the opportunity to review their property at their home, at their leisure, and if they feel that they should contest their value, then on my website is a list of things that they should bring in. They can bring in a fee appraisal, which is a lot different from mass appraisal. They can bring photographs in of their home with the interior, because we don’t go on the interior of any homes,” Nye said.

For more information on the revaluation process or how to file an appeal, homeowners can visit the Muskingum County Auditors website.
