Muskingum County Sheriff Urges Safe Driving on New Year’s Eve

ZANESVILLE, OH – As 2023 winds down and New Year’s Eve approaches, Muskingum County Sheriff, Matt Lutz, emphasized the importance of safe driving during the celebrations.
Sheriff Lutz stressed the dangers of drinking and driving, reminding the community that it’s not just about avoiding legal trouble, but also about keeping everyone on the road safe.
“Obviously at the top, is really severely hurting yourself or hurting somebody else is what we get concerned about. For that person to make that decision, you’re looking at the ramifications that come with that. We want you to get where you’re going, have a good time, and get home safely,” Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said.
The sheriff also highlighted the severe legal consequences of drinking and driving. It is encouraged to plan ahead, use ride-sharing services, or designate a sober driver.
“You could seriously get hurt or hurt somebody else seriously. Once you get past that aspect of it, you still have to look at what being convicted of DUI means, it could affect your job, it could affect your driving privileges to and from,” Sheriff Lutz said.
As Muskingum County prepares to welcome 2024, remember to celebrate responsibly to ensure a happy and safe start to the New Year.
