Muskingum County Special Olympics celebrate a Successful Season

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Hometown Olympians gathered August 20th to celebrate a successful season of competition.
The Muskingum County Special Olympics celebrated a season of hard work including Starlight’s State Basketball Title with a lunch and awards ceremony at Prophet’s Park.
“The event is the end of the year celebration for the Special Olympics year of 2016/2017. All the athletes have done all the different sports are all here we usually eat and have a little program and they get their awards.” said President, Sandy Drenten.
The awards come from a variety of sports that keep the Olympian’s busy year round.
“Swimming is usually in October, December. Basketball runs from December to march, track usually will compete in May, bowling in April, cycling in May and then the end of the season is usually the state summer games and they participate in the end of June.”
Drenten wanted to thank everyone for coming out and having a good time.
