Muskingum County to Host Fifth Marathon, Adds 5K Back This Year

Marathon 5k

ZANESVILLE, Ohio–After a pandemic pause and some adjustments in recent years, the Zanesville Marathon is back. This year’s event will mark the fifth time the marathon has been held, and organizers are bringing back a fan favorite: the 5K.

“This will be the fifth marathon that we’ve hosted, we had to take a little break there during COVID. We didn’t host a 5K last year and this year we were able to work that back in,” said Amanda McPeck, assistant public information officer for the Muskingum County Public Health Department.

Hosted in support of the Muskingum County Community Foundation, and the Public Health Department, the course winds through some of Zanesville’s most known spots—starting at Secrest Auditorium, looping across the Y-Bridge, through the historic Putnam district, and finishing back downtown.

“We are looking for volunteers for the race. One of our biggest asks is for traffic marshals. We want to help protect the runners so we want to try to man as many intersections as we possibly can so that’s our biggest ask. If you are interested in being a volunteer for that you can go to runsignup.com and there’s a volunteer page,” Mcpeck said.

Registration for both the marathon and 5K is officially open at RunSignUp.com. Organizers are also looking for community support in the form of sponsorships. If you’re a local business or individual wanting to get involved, you can reach out to the Muskingum County Health Department at 740-454-9741, extension 253.
