ZANESVILLE,Ohio– This Fourth of July started off rainy and soggy. But that did not stop the participants of the Red, White, and Run 5K event.

Siblings Trayven and Daryan Wood have been running in the Muskingum Rec Center’s Red, White and Run 5K for the past 3 years.

“Honestly when I got up this morning and saw the forecast, it was like I guess I’m just going to run, to say I ran a 5k in the rain because it’s kind of nasty outside,” Daryan Wood said.

“It was certainly a lot more soggier,” Trayven Wood said. “And of course it started pouring rain on us. I actually enjoyed it oppose to it being hot and sunny.”

“Past years. it’s been sunny and nice. But it’s still ok,” Daryan Wood said.

Event and program manager Becky Weir said Monday’s event is successful. Even with the the wet weather, Weir says about 170 runners took to the track this morning.

“Everyone has been phenomenal and good nature about the whole rain thing,” Weir said. “I’d liked to see sunshine and probably about 50-75 or even 100 more people come out. But it has been great. And it’s a wonderful thing. The Zanesville Fire Department has been phenomenal to work with. We’re just thankful. We’re thankful for all our sponsors.”

Weir thanks all the participants, staff, and sponsors that made this event possible.
