Muskingum Rec Center to host Holiday Fitness Programs
The holidays are filled with friends, family, and food and the seemingly endless treats make hitting the gym a must during the winter months.
The Muskingum Recreation Center is hosting fitness programs to help you stay healthy this holiday season. Event and Program Manager Becky Weir said there are activities for the kids just in time for Christmas break. From 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on the week of Dec. 21 and 28 kids will get the chance to learn to swim, play sports, and make crafts.
“For every hour that a child sits they need to be up moving for an hour too and in the winter time we get kind of lazy and do just like to watch movies and lay around but we need to be moving too because it’s very healthy for all and especially kids to get busy,” said Weir.
Just as the holiday season comes to a close the Rec Center will host their ‘Thinner Winner Challenge’. Beginning Jan. 10 a team of four to six including one non-member can compete in the weight loss challenge and the team with the greatest percentage of weight loss will win $1,000 but Weir said you don’t have to wait until January to start those workout resolutions.
“Try to get in here during the holidays,” said Weir. “It’s a great time to work out, stay fit during the holidays. Don’t pack on during the holiday and just stay healthy. ”
If you are interested in getting involved the challenge is just $100 for non-members and $50 for existing members. The challenge will include a weigh-in, a one time group work-out with a personal trainer, and platinum access to the facility with unlimited group exercises as well as weekly e-mails with healthy eating and workout tips.
