Muskingum Recreation Center To Dedicate Gym

The gymnasium in the Muskingum Recreation Center will be receiving a special dedication this coming August.

It will be named the Fred Taylor Memorial Gymnasium, in honor of the local man who coached Ohio State University to the National Championships. Executive Director of the Muskingum Recreation Center Beth Chapman told us more about him and their choice of dedication.

“He’s a legendary coach for the Ohio State University. He came back to Zanesville after his coaching career ended and actually worked at I believe, Green Valley Golf Club.” Said Chapman, “So he’s well known in the area, and we want to honor him for all his accomplishments. Not just at The Ohio State University but everything that he did to influence people and his players through their lives.”

The event is a benefit for the Friends of the MRC. Sponsorship opportunities range anywhere from one hundred and fifty dollars for an individual to ten thousand dollars for a corporate sponsorship. Chapman said three guest stars will also be present to talk about Taylor.

“We do have three folks that people might recognize coming to speak in honor of Fred. We have NBA legends Jerry Lucas, and John Havlicek as well as Hall of Fame Coach Bob Knight. The emcee for the event will be Bill Hoskett.”

The event will be held Thursday, August 27th. Chapman said a VIP event will be held the day before. Thursday morning there will be an opportunity to golf with Havlivcek and Lucas or fish with Knight.
