Muskingum University Begins a New Semester

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Most people think of K-through-12 when they hear the phrase back to school but many of today’s students study well beyond the required primary education.
Such is the case at Muskingum University, where students attended their first day of classes for this fall semester. Muskingum University Junior Phillip Lashley explained how students benefit during their first day of classes on campus.
“It’s a great time for sure. Everyone just welcomes you back and you look around, you see all these tents up, you know it’s just a very warm environment. You know it’s a little bit of an adjustment you know, going from your sleep, summer schedule to this schedule but you know, everyone’s patient with you, very calm and it’s just… it’s a great time and it’s a great transition period,” Lashley said.
Muskingum has optimized its curriculum, not only to better suit workforce demand but also to gain broader student appeal. And admission numbers are up.
“So we are welcoming students back to campus for our Fall 2025 semester. And I’m particularly excited to welcome our students back this year because we are bringing them into new programming, great opportunities, we’ve been working for a whole year on redoing our academic programs to meet the needs of the region, to prepare students for the future. So it’s anything from data analytics, to expanding our computer science and engineering programs, to project management, to micro credentials. We’re offering a lot of things that employers in our region have told us they really need,” Muskingum University President Susan Hasseler said.
Muskingum’s adjustments to its curriculum is not only attracting undergrads, but drawing transfers from other institutions and encouraging enrollment into graduate programs.
